The Community Counseling and Assessment Clinic is the training clinic operated by the Counseling Psychology Program in the Department of Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Our mission involves the following three components:
  • Service
  • Training
  • Research

Service

We provide evidence-based counseling and psychological services to the University of Southern Mississippi and greater Hattiesburg communities. As a training clinic, we are able to offer our services at much lower costs than one can typically find in the community. Fees for counseling services are based on a sliding scale, meaning that clients' ability to pay is taken into account. In addition, we typically charge less than half the rates one would pay elsewhere for our assessment services (e.g., adult ADHD evaluations, substance use evaluations, mental health evaluations).

Training

The Community Counseling and Assessment Clinic is the primary practicum site for master's and doctoral students in the Counseling Psychology Program at the University of Southern Mississippi. The program trains students using a scientist-practitioner model, and the clinic serves an integral part of this approach to training. All services are provided by graduate students who are training to become counselors or psychologists. Their work is closely supervised by program faculty, who are either licensed psychologists or currently pursuing licensure.

Research

We facilitate applied psychological research conducted by faculty and graduate students in the Counseling Psychology Program by providing a framework to facilitate data collection. For example, program faculty and students have conducted research through the clinic to develop and evaluate innovative counseling approaches.
