Counseling Psychology Doctoral Students Match for Internship

Seal of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (1989-2012)Every year, advanced doctoral students in applied psychology programs around the country complete a highly competitive application and interview process for internship positions at a variety of clinical settings. These students typically spend their final year of training working full-time as psychology interns in these settings. Since there are more applicants than available internship placements, the process can be a stressful one.

We learned last week that all of four of the doctoral students in the Counseling Psychology program at the University of Southern Mississippi obtained internship placements for next year. This speaks to the quality of our students and the training they receive through the doctoral program, including the portion of their training that takes place through the Community Counseling and Assessment Clinic.

Here is where our students will be completing their predoctoral psychology internships next year:
  • Carly - Federal Bureau of Prisons in Tallahassee
  • Danielle - Southeast Louisiana VA in New Orleans
  • Niki - Central Arkansas VA in Little Rock
  • Ben - Central Texas VA in Waco
Congratulations to these students! We will miss having them around, but we are happy to see them move on to the final stage of their psychology training.
